BOTOX: Are You Thinking of Getting It?

Are you considering botox for yourself or have someone close to you that is? I don't typically share a lot of personal information in my blog, but this one is about my experience with botox and some things to consider before taking the plunge.

In my younger days, I swore I would never even consider injecting botox in my face.....well, that changed in the past year. I am one to always do my research before trying something out because I never want to put myself in any serious risk. In the past several months, I have been getting information from different physicians plus talking to other people who have had it done. I was noticing a lot of lines around my eyes (crows feet) in pictures when I smiled and decided that I wanted to get it done.

I was definitely nervous about this experience but Dr. Anwar was really great. She is a family physician and has a Skin/Body Wellness Spa on the opposite side of her family practice in Sugarland, Texas. The office staff was very friendly and the environment made me feel comfortable.

If you don't have a problem watching needles, below, Dr. Anwar was open to the idea of allowing me to tape my experience.






I think I felt more pain from getting blood taken out of my arm. On my way home it did feel a little weird; not painful, but a little numb. I was afraid that feeling was going to stay but it quickly dissipated a few hours later. Now, it takes 7-10 days for the muscles to paralyze so you will not see results right away. Take a look at my second picture; I definitely saw a smoother appearance immediately after the shots:












Overall, I had a very pleasant experience. Let me be clear that I am NOT suggesting or recommending anyone get botox, but if this is something you are considering, be sure to do your homework. Below are some tips before you make your decision:

Don't get botox

• if you are allergic to lidocaine
• if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  
• that sounds like a bargain - it is not cheap and if it seems to good to be true, it is. Some practitioners dilute it and this can cause many problems including droopy eyelids and uncontrollable tearing
• from someone without a medical degree - this is your face - choose a physician that has experience and ask them how long they have been practicing this
