If you are wearing clothes that are too tight or too big, then I am talking to you!
Let's say you walk into a clothing store and start trying on pants in the sizes you are accustomed to wearing, but they are fitting you too big or too tight. If this is the case with more than one designer or style, then you need to consider that you have probably A. lost weight or B. gained weight.
It's hard when you have been a certain size for the majority of your life and then you either lose weight or gain weight and don't want to move to the next size. You might be thinking, who would lose weight and not want to buy smaller size clothes? Well, there are many people who lose weight and then have one of two things happen.
1. They are delusional about the amount of weight loss and can't even fathom trying on a smaller pant size because they look in the mirror and see the same body as before
2. They are planning on losing more weight so they want to hold off on purchasing new clothes until they reach their ideal size
Oversized pants on anyone's derriere does not look good (the saggy bum look). I will often times hear the person stating that they feel a sense of accomplishment when their clothes fit big because it reminds them of how they have lost or are losing weight. That is all well and good but if one of their purposes of losing weight was to look better, then wearing oversize clothes is not helping their objective.
Of course, there are many people out there who have gained weight over the years and refuse to buy clothes the next size up because of their New Year's resolution to lose weight. The problem here is they don't lose the weight and are sporting clothes that actually make them appear larger because they are too tight (i.e. muffin top, creases on the back of the pant leg, etc). If you truly want to lose weight, going out and purchasing a pair of pants that fit your current size will look so much better on you. When you look better you feel better. How many times do you put on a pair of jeans that you feel like you are about to explode in? Are you motivated to run to the gym or do you just feel worse about yourself and participate in behaviors that contribute to more weight gain? Yes, the latter is what happens to most people. This is why wearing clothes that make you feel great now will be an incentive to engage in more healthier activities which promote weight loss.
A quick tip for both those who have lost or gained weight:
Lost Weight
Invest in one to two pairs of pants that will look great on your body now- don't go overboard with designer labels or expensive designers, but make sure they look great on you. This way you can look good now and won't feel bad when you need to purchase more in smaller sizes down the road.
Gained Weight
If you are actually planning on losing weight (I'm talking about having a weight loss plan right now and are sticking to it) then purchase one or two pairs of pants that fit your size right now. What is most important is to be comfortable with who you are today- love your body now- this will contribute to more positive thinking and healthier habits.
Good luck and feel great about your look today!
