Setting the record straight on silver suits and getting rid of those square-toe shoes!

If you're a man that has to wear dress shoes to work, have you paid any attention to what style you are wearing. Also, do you know when a silver suit be worn?

If you caught the annual Grammy's on January 31, 2010, you may have taken notice to John Legend's sharp (although a bit too tight) silver suit. In addition to having a great voice, John always dresses appropriately for the occasion and has his own unique style. A dark silver suit is a great look for evening or a special event, but it is not a color that is appropriate for the workplace. I was recently made aware of an upper-level manager who wore a brand new silver suit to work to meet a prospective client. Although a dark gray suit brings a level of seriousness and professionalism, silver is not gray and should not be worn during business hours. Remember, the focus should be on you, not your shiny outfit or next on my list, square-toe shoes!

Despite the fact that square-toe dress shoes are no longer in style, you might still be embarrassed for some that you see walking around with feet that resemble a platypus. If you are someone with a large shoe size the square-toe shoe will make your feet look even bigger. The eye should be able to start from the bottom up or from the top down without getting caught up on an eye sore of a large square shaped shoe. There are many great rounded styles (as seen in shoe picture on the right) that are slightly square shape for those generation X or Y' rs that just can't seem themselves in a pointy toe shoe that their grandfather used to wear.

When thinking about suit colors or dress shoe shapes keep in mind that the emphasis should always be on you in business. Just because you look stylish or are wearing the latest suit by Kenneth Cole, it is not your fashion that is going to get you the deal- it is your competence and determination that will!
